FabNerds, this post comes to you late because I have a job at a movie theatre and I worked late for the opening of The Bling Ring.
You know, that Sofia Coppola movie based on that E! reality show?
The movie looks awesome, but that’s beside the point. I was watching a morning show segment about the movie and some reporter said the film was about our obsession with celebrity (true) and cited people like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton as “American Royalty”.

I have a problem with this. Not because America was a country built on the idea that there was no royalty, but because I always grew up thinking “American Royalty” was THIS:

Celebrities are not America’s equivalent to royalty. Royalty is something untouchable. You don’t pick apart royalty the way you do celebrity. That’s why when something truly scandalous happens with them it’s a big deal.
If this was a Jersey Shore photo, you wouldn’t look twice.
A celebrity is much more exciting than that. With famous people something is always happening, they have a movie or a sex tape or they’re on The View for the movie/sex tape. Celebrities are not royalty. Royalty is boring. Royalty doesn’t throw up onstage.
Don’t get me wrong. I love royalty. Like seriously: let’s have a a Kate Middleton tribute for a sec:
…get the difference? If you are going to call someone American Royalty, let it be someone boring. The beautiful famous people who spend most of their time doing things (writing legislation, working for charities) and are only news-worthy when they sleep with interns, but you don’t hold it against them because they are too likable – these people are royal. Celebrities are only infamous.
FAB NERDS! It’s been months since we’ve last seen each other. I know, I know. But listen: this summer is going to be different. You are going to get some stellar N&F posts EVERY Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We are gonna make up for lost time, I promise. So before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s play a little catch up. Here are the 10 Big Thingsthat were happened in my life since I last updated this little blog.
1. I Was In A Play!
I am not really playing this violin.
True facts! I was in a play called Kafka:Divided at Purchase. It was more or less an adaptation of Kafka’s Metamorphosis. I played the Sister and I danced with a violin. I wish this picture wasn’t so small, but it was in a small theatre, so I guess that’s approriate.
3. I FINALLY Saw Rogers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella on Broadway!
I’ve been following this show since I found out Santino Fontana from Submissions Only would play Prince Charming. I’m a little bit obsessed. As soon as I had my final week under control, my friend and I booked it over to the Broadway Theatre for Rush Tickets and watched the magic.
I just want to thank you all for your kind words this time of need. As you know, SMASH and I were very close. We all knew the end was coming, but I was hoping that after Karen and Ivy’s duet at the Bombshell opening we’d have at least one more season, but that’s life, right?
But it’s important to remember the good things about the ones we’ve lost, so if anyone has some good Ivy/Derek fan fiction or some Jimmy in Jail fan art, please send it my way. I will be waiting with baited breath, but until then let’s end this section the way SMASH intended…
6. Princess: Long Island Premiered!
And it is amazing.
7. I Bought New Hats!
I was busy during my hiatus, I promise, but I also bought this hat and I think it’s really cool. Here I am wearing it at a Father’s Day Brunch with my dad and brother.

8. I Worked on A Middle School Production of Grease!
True. I choreographed a bit, but mainly I designed their lights. I won’t show any video, because of the whole “videos of minors” thing. So here’s a video of a Korean Production of the High School Hit.
9. I Made Ticket Stub Art!
If you follow me on Instagram (@TheFabJessGoing) you might see these pop up occasionally. I one of my summer jobs involves working at a movie theater and sometimes it’s dead and I’m bored and the only friends I have are ticket stubs.

10. I Met LC!
So, I’ve never read any of reality star turned fashion guru, Lauren Conrad’s novels (that she writes herself!) but I do think her website is wonderful. And when I heard she was doing a book signing near me TODAY, well, I just had to go. Here’s a pic.

We talked about the horrible rain she drove in to get there. Her make-up was Fabulous.
