The SMASH Legacy

Remember Dev? He was in Politics. But not in a Rob Lowe Way.

Remember Dev? He was in Politics. But not in a Rob Lowe Way. In a boring way.

Ok, FabNerds, I should probably write a longer post for this week, but think have been a little hectic this week so I just have a quick little update. Next week will be longer, I promise.

Anyway, I’ve been going through some delayed SMASH withdrawal.* Because, why wouldn’t I be? I was going to go check to see if Hulu still had any episodes up, but I’ve just cancelled my HuluPlus account (again) in order to support my aforementioned online shopping addiction, so I went to the Xfinity website to see what was left of the NBC’s Total SMASH Wipeout.** Now, Xfinity is free with my parents cable subscription (to you “subscribe” to cable?) so I don’t know if all of you can see what I am talking about/watch this clip, but if you have Comcast you MUST look.

tied up my heart...

tied up my heart…

So, there are some clips that are from the better (if sometimes boring) season 2, but that’s not what I came to see, FabNerds. I want some season 1 deliciousness. I want SMASH Classic. And there, waiting for me like the butterfly at the funeral for that chick who got murdered in Patch Adams is this absolute GEM:

What's Weird About This?

What’s Weird About This?

Ok, in case you don’t get it the name of the clip is “Dev is angry Karen didn’t tell reveal earlier that Derek sexually harassed her”.

Let me repeat that. This title of the clips is “Dev is angry Karen didn’t tell reveal earlier that Derek sexually harassed her”.

Now, I’ve watched a lot of clips in my life and it’s not like I study them or anything, but I do think I have absorbed some information about how they function on the internet. First off, they are supposed to either be called something vague (“Clip Number 1”, “Clip From Episode 1.07”) or just give you a little hit at what’s going on – entice you (“Dev and Karen Fight”). Where is the mystery, Xfinity? I mean, I will (generously) forgive the obvious typo where whoever wrote it couldn’t decided whether to use the word “tell” or “reveal” but the rest is just laziness.

“Dev watches Karen put her script into her bag, but doesn’t say anything because he is boring.”

However, I will say that it is a perfect title for a clip about that first season. In one, longwinded sentence it totally incapsulates what all of the problems where: Over-explaination, Redundancy, Too Many Characters We Didn’t Care About…

Why is Ellis The Creeper always lying down in these photos? Did the photographer just look at him and say “Know what? You really shouldn’t stand erect.”

I am hoping that whoever wrote the clip “Dev is angry Karen didn’t tell reveal earlier that Derek sexually harassed her” was doing it as an homage to my dearly beloved SMASH, but part of me just thinks he or she was really tired that night and had to finish writing those damn clips. If anyone has any information on this, let me know. I’m totally curious.

Oh, and I watch the clip. It was short and boring.

Peace Out,

*Sorry for ANOTHER SMASH POST btw. I’ll stop writing about it when it stops being interesting.

** Seriously, they made all the promotional videos and clips from the SMASH Youtube page “private”- as in the general public can’t watch them. It was like 70 videos. They don’t want anyone talking about this show anymore. This is my small rebellion.

Catching Up With Exclamation!

Let’s Stay Informed, Shall We?

FAB NERDS! It’s been months since we’ve last seen each other. I know, I know. But listen: this summer is going to be different. You are going to get some stellar N&F posts EVERY Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We are gonna make up for lost time, I promise. So before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s play a little catch up. Here are the 10 Big Things that were happened in my life since I last updated this little blog.

1. I Was In A Play!

I am not really playing this violin.

I am not really playing this violin.

True facts! I was in a play called Kafka:Divided at Purchase. It was more or less an adaptation of Kafka’s Metamorphosis. I played the Sister and I danced with a violin. I wish this picture wasn’t so small, but it was in a small theatre, so I guess that’s approriate.

2. My Senior Project Got Approved!

Yo! Remember how all I talked about for a while was writing my senior project proposal and presenting my project in front of the Board? Well I did. And I’m approved! That’s right, I will be directing Babble at The Underground Theatre at SUNY Purchase College in March! More on that in the coming months. For now, let’s just smile. 🙂

3. I FINALLY Saw Rogers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella on Broadway!

I’ve been following this show since I found out Santino Fontana from Submissions Only would play Prince Charming. I’m a little bit obsessed. As soon as I had my final week under control, my friend  and I booked it over to the Broadway Theatre for Rush Tickets and watched the magic.

For more magic with the cast you can watch Ella’s Laura Osnes on her Broadway.Com Video Blog or watch this adorable video from The Times which has my favorite song in all Rogers and Hammerstein.

4. I Finished My Junior Year of College!

5. SMASH was Canceled!

I just want to thank you all for your kind words this time of need. As you know, SMASH and I were very close. We all knew the end was coming, but I was hoping that after Karen and Ivy’s duet  at the Bombshell opening we’d have at least one more season, but that’s life, right?

But it’s important to remember the good things about the ones we’ve lost, so if anyone has some good Ivy/Derek fan fiction or some Jimmy in Jail fan art, please send it my way. I will be waiting with baited breath, but until then let’s end this section the way SMASH intended…

6. Princess: Long Island Premiered!

And it is amazing.

7. I Bought New Hats!

I was busy during my hiatus, I promise, but I also bought this hat and I think it’s really cool. Here I am wearing it at a Father’s Day Brunch with my dad and brother.

FabNerds, Don't tell my brother he's on here, ok?

8. I Worked on A Middle School Production of Grease!

True. I choreographed a bit, but mainly I designed their lights. I won’t show any video, because of the whole “videos of minors” thing. So here’s a video of a Korean Production of the High School Hit.

9. I Made Ticket Stub Art!

If you follow me on Instagram (@TheFabJessGoing) you might see these pop up occasionally. I one of my summer jobs involves working at a movie theater and sometimes it’s dead and I’m bored and the only friends I have are ticket stubs.

10. I Met LC!

So, I’ve never read any of reality star turned fashion guru, Lauren Conrad’s novels (that she writes herself!) but I do think her website is wonderful. And when I heard she was doing a book signing near me TODAY, well, I just had to go. Here’s a pic.

We talked about the horrible rain she drove in to get there. Her make-up was Fabulous.

…sooo. That’s all I’ve been doing the last few weeks. I’ll see you on Wednesday with a new post.

Stay Cool,
